We can tell what an herb does by looking at several of its properties, the color of its blossoms, the soil in grows in, the texture of the skin of the herb, and in even in some cases, the shape of it root system.
It should be noted however, that some herbs have more than one property, and as a matter of fact, most herbs are capableof doing several jobs at one times.
The healer should however, inquire as to whiether the patient has any allergies, for instance in the case of chamomile, ofwhich some have been known to be allergic to this particular herb.
Color of the Blossoms
Red Blossoms - Herbs with Red blossoms are indication that the herb is a blood purifier, or alterative, meaning the herb contains astringency properties, making it a good antibiotic.
Yellow Blossoms - herbs with yellow blossoms are generally used for liver, gall bladder, and urinary tract infections. Generally speaking they are diuretic in nature, meaning they rid of the body of harmful toxins.
Blue/Purple Blossoms - These herbs are generally used as sedative or relaxants, and they are generally classified as nervine in nature.
Growing Conditions
Gravel - herbs that grow in gravel are used to treat stones. (ie kidney stones) and remove alimentary and bronchial harmful accumulations.
Mucky, swampy or wet ground - Used to treat excessive mucous conditions such as respiratory afflictions such as asthma, colds, coughs, rehuematism. Examples of these kind of herbs are willow, verbena and elder.
Texture of the Herb
Soft texture - Used in the treatment of swollen or inflamed areas, ie chest disorders. Examples of herbs are Horehound and mullein
