RedHeads UNITE!!!
Next to blondes, redheads have more hairs on their heads than any other type of person!
In the dark ages, redheaded woman were considered 'evil'. During and after the reign of Queen Elizabeth, redhair was considered a thing of beauty, just as pale skin.
Despite the fact that redhair is strongly associated with Ireland, Scotland has more redheads than any other country!
Did you know that red hair came from the Vikings and not the Celts? And that there are two types of redheads? There are no ancient accounts of the Celts EVER having red hair(until maybe after the Vikings). In fact, people who encountered them in battle (including the Romans) describe them as pale, freckled, and blonde. Even the celebrity Celtic warrior Queen Maeve was described as having golden hair. So how did the red get in there? Raping, pillaging and plundering by the Vikings! Who WERE recorded as redheaded! Eric the Red, a fierce "barbarian" was known for his red hair. Once the Vikings raided through the British Isles more redheads were born which overrides the blonde gene most of the time, yet survived well in the blonde populations because both genes are recessive (yet one is more recessive than the other). Eventually more redheads were born and the blonde hair faided away with each generation, but the people were still left with the palest skin type on Earth (next to albinism) and sunkisses (freckles!) and blue eyes.
So if the redheaded Vikings came from Norway, why are most of the people in Norway blonde and there are so few redheads? Because the Vikings went AWAY from their homeland because they wanted MORE land, thus raping women ELSEwhere. The Vikings were not blonde (though I'm sure some blonde Norweigen men were in there running around ;P) and did NOT in fact have horned helmets. OR freckles. In fact, the beauty of red hair is farely new to mankind. A genetic mutation of blonde hair which for some unknown reason first started in Norway is the result of red hair. Some scientists argue now that redhair is much older because redheads evolved from Neanderthal man, which I highly doubt ;P This explains why some redheads have blonde eyebrows and blonde eyelashes.
So now we know red hair came from the Vikings and spread to different ethnic groups. Not all redheads have freckles though. In fact, the first redheads did not have freckles, and there are descendants of those non-freckled redheads. Simply means they have no Celtic genes in them (or another gene from the other parent cancelled them out, though freckles are in fact a dominent gene and can show up on almost any skin type. However, pale skin is not). There are more redheads with freckles though than those without because it's a dominent gene, and more freckled redheaded Viking/Celts than the original freckled blonde Celts. So those are the two types of redheads! Viking, and Viking/Celt.
Did you know that despite the "green eyed redhead" stereotype, that redheads are more likely to have blue eyes than green?
I was also informed that the Vikings did eventually settle in Ireland and Scotland and even founded Dublin, which explains the strong redhead population! Sadly, there are very few original Celtic people, if at all in the remaining seven Celtic nations of today. I heared from the BBC that blondes will be extinct in 200 years recessive gene thing.
