4 purposes of the collar:
1. It is a visible sign of slavery.
2. A slave can "feel" her slavery impressed upon her through the steel against her neck , or leather, or iron or binding fiber etc., reminding her constantly that she is an owned slave.
3. It identifies the Owner of a slave since most collars were engraved with the name or initials of a slave's Owner.
4. It provides a leash attachment so the slave may be lead or staked out.
'What is the common purpose of a collar?' 'The collar has four common purposes, Master,' she said, 'First, it visibly designates me as a slave, as a brand might not, should it be covered by clothing. Second, it impresses my slavery upon me. Thirdly, it identifies me to my Master. Fourthly, fourthly,' 'Fourthly?' he asked. 'Fourthly,' she said, 'it makes it easier to leash me.' He kicked her in the side. She winced. Her response had been slow. Explorers of Gor, page 80
